big impact on a small community

Knoxville. . .a small community in north central PA struggled with poor to no service for years. Dial-up through Frontier was the town's only option until Xtreme Internet installed the first fixed wireless network to give residents better connections and greater speeds.

But Xtreme did not stop there. After partnering with Ericsson, Xtreme Internet rolled out carrier grade, LTE equipment that far exceeded the capabilities of the former radio technology. This video explains the benefits of Ericsson technology seen in this small rural town.

Massive MIMO provides the means for improved coverage, capacity and user throughput by exploiting the spatial domain. This is achieved by using multi-antenna technologies such as beam forming, null forming and spatial multiplexing.

Beamforming amplifies transmitted/recieved signals more in some directions than others. A high BF gain in the direction of the CPE improves link quality in SINR. Improved quality translates to better coverage, capacity and user throughput.

Null forming is a form of beam forming that strives to lower the beam gain in certain directions or reduce it to zero. By reducing gain, interference signals can be reduced.

Spatial multiplexing: In Massive MIMO, it is possible to multiplex several data streams on the same time-frequency symbol. This is called spectrum re-use. The multiplexed data streams can all go to the same device or to different devices. Spatial multiplexing can increase user throughput and network capacity.
